Kirk i episoden Tomorrow is Yesterday C: Must have taken quite a lot to build a ship like this. K: There are only 12 like it in the fleet. C: I see. Did the Navy... K: We're a combined service, Captain. K: Our authority is the United Earth Space Probe Agency. C: United Earth? K: This is very difficult to explain. Vad är Unided Earth Space Probe Agency? Varför united Earth och inte United Federation of Planets? Jag läste någonstans att det var en enhet som fanns inna starfleet, men detta kan inte stämma då episoden avslutas med följande dialog där starfleet nämns: Starfleet Control, this is the Enterprise. Captain Kirk speaking. [Computer] Recordship arrival, dear. Enterprise, this is Starfleet Control. Come in, please. Starfleet Control, repeating message. The Enterprise is home. Kirk out. Starfleet är (om inte jag är helt fel ute) politiskt underställt UFP (United Federation of Planets) Det känns som om UESPA skulle vara något från tiden innan UFP. Great Bird Posted October 12, 2004 Report Share Posted October 12, 2004 Enda sedan Enterprise startade har jag gått och surat över att Jordens rymdorganisation kallades Starfleet istället för UESPA. Jag har alltid trott att UESPA var jordens rymdflotta innan federationen (vilket inte stämmer enligt ENT :arg: ). "Combined service" kanske betyder att Starfleet består av UPFs medlemars flottor t.ex. UESPA, Andorian Imperial Guard och Vulcan Space Navy. Enterprise kanske lyder under UESPA och har därför en majoritet människor ombord. Det var UESPA som skickade iväg Friendship 1 år 2067. Det kan alltså vara en föregångare till Starfleet. UESPA The term "Star Fleet" is first used in TOS: "Court Martial". However, a few episodes later in TOS: "Tomorrow is Yesterday", Kirk mentions the United Earth Space Probe Agency (UESPA) to Air Force Captain John Christopher. All later Star Trek episodes assume that Starfleet already existed as far back as 2161. UESPA might have been the predecessor prior to the foundation of both the Federation and Starfleet in 2161, as supported by the probe Friendship One from the year 2068 which is labeled with "UESPA". Enterprise, however, establishes the name "Starfleet" as soon as 2151. This makes Kirk's statement only more incredible, since he would refer to an organization that ceased to exist more than a hundred years ago, prior to the foundation of the Federation. Prior to the new series Enterprise, there was a very good explanation for Kirk's statement. He might not want to confuse Christopher, a man from the 1960's, with the fact that Earth is part of an interstellar alliance with alien cultures. Thus, he might have remembered his history lessons and just chosen the UESPA as a convenient reference. However, since the term "Starfleet" predates the foundation of the Federation anyway, why wouldn't he just say "Earth Starfleet", rather than the much more complicated term UESPA? In this respect, it is a better explanation that in 2266 the UESPA might still exist as a (scientific?) department of Starfleet, so Kirk wouldn't necessarily lie about it. Å andra sidan så "brukar" Kirk säga United Earth när han borde säga något annat. T.ex. i "The Corbomite Maneuver" där han kallar Enterprise "United Earth Ship" (U.E.S.) när han borde ha sagt" United Space Ship" (U.S.S.) Peak Posted October 13, 2004 Report Share Posted October 13, 2004 Den "riktiga" förklaringen är givetvis att manusförfattarna på den tiden ännu inte riktigt fastslagit alla termer och liknande. En liknande inkonsistent grej är ju vilket århundrande som originalserien skulle utspela sig. The Squire of Gothos fastslog att Star Trek utspelade sig på 2900-talet. Inom serien så får man väl jämka lite. Det kan vara den civila- eller forskningsdelen av Starfleet som höll på att avvecklas under TOS. Eller nåt.
