Diana Schaub, som är collegeprofessor och rådgivare till president George W Bush, har uttalat sig om kloning och stamcellsforskning på embryon. Hon är övertygad om att all sådan forskning är "evil" och denna uppfattning har hon delvis fått genom att studera Abraham Lincoln men även Star Trek:

I find that there are good reasons to be opposed to embryonic stem cell research and human cloning. Both Lincoln and the Enterprise argue that there ought to be certain moral limits to the scientific project, and they help us articulate what those limits are
