Äntligen har dagen kommit, då vi öppnar Star Trek Databas.
Star Trek Databas är en hopslagning av ST: Voyager Databas och ST: Enterprise Databas, med en ny adress och nytt utseende.
All information från de två sidorna finns på denna sida.
Star Trek Forum har också flyttats över till denna adress.

Några av nyheterna:

I en intervju med Ventura County Star berättade Rick Berman och Brannon Braga om Delphic Expanse i säsong 3 och annat, Enterprise kommer inte att fortsätta i samma spår som Voyager.

"It's not a 'Lost in Space' like 'Voyager. They're not going to be out of touch with Earth.", sade Berman. Det är även möjligt att kända Star Trek-utomjordingar som Klingons och Vulcans kan dyka upp.

Under nästa säsong så kommer T'Pol att börja experimentera mer med mänskliga känslor, med hjälp av Phlox.

Berman sade även följande om kopplingen med den 11:e september:
"The idea of aliens coming to destroy Earth has been around a lot longer than Sept. 11. But anytime we can explore a contemporary issue, it makes the show that much better."

På TrekToday har de samlat ihop de bästa star trek-skämten på årets 1 april. De skriver dock, efter dessa "nyheter", att dessa 1 april-historier inte har bekräftats officiellt från Paramount Pictures, och att det heller aldrig kommer att ske.

Ett flertal skådespelare, såsom Robert Picardo (doktorn), Tim Russ (Tuvok), George Takei (Sulu), Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher), tillsammans med Andre Bormanis (ENT), Mike Okuda, Hermin Zimmerman, Matt Jefferies (skaparen av skeppet Enterprise) med flera, har skrivit under en petition till stöd för rymdforskning - ett svar på förlusten av Columbia med besättning.

Nichelle Nichols (Uhura i TOS) har länge stöttat rymdprogrammet och tryckt på behovet av att rekrytera människor av olika raser skriver på sin hemsida - Uhura.com - :

In spite of our loss, our Space endeavors must move forward... no longer for the challenge of the space race, but for the continued betterment of humankind here on Earth... [...] We are called once again as our history has called us before to reconfirm our commitment that these brave and brilliant souls shall not have died in vain. We must now stand united and demand that the dream become a reality. To do less would be an insult to our heroes, the Astronaut Corp, and to this great nation.

Robert Forward, fysiker och science fiction-författare, föddes i New York, 15 augusti 1932. Han dog av cancer i Seattle den 21 september 2002, i en ålder av 70 år.

Hans fysiska teorier inspirerade Star Trek-skaparna. Teorierna handlade om möjligheterna till ett materia- och antimateriabränsle för rymdfart, vilket Gene Roddenberry självklart använde för att föra Enterprise till ställen dit ingen människa åkt förut.

ROBERT FORWARD?S career combined science fiction with science fact. A highly accomplished physicist who worked on the possibilities of matter-antimatter propulsion for space travel, he was also responsible for almost a dozen novels and short stories. He was very much in the Arthur C. Clarke school of ?hard? sci-fi, a genre that insists on a strict adherence to scientific feasibility. ?I write science articles and science fiction stories as accurately as I can so that the reader will learn some science while enjoying a story,? he once remarked.
His fictional works typically began from exotic scientific hypothesis. His first novel, Dragon?s Egg (1980), like its sequel, Starquake (1985), was set on a neutron star among rapidly evolving beings called ?cheela? whose lifespan is 45 minutes. The Flight of the Dragonfly (retitled Rocheworld, 1990) featured twin planets populated by amoeba-like beings called ?flouwen?, creatures whose only physical presence is their brains and whose sole pastimes are pondering mathematical abstractions and procreating. Forward?s final work, Saturn Rukh (1996), charts the adventures of five human beings sent to the ringed planet to convert chemicals into fuel ? only to face the wrath of Saturn?s ?rukhs?, two-headed monsters that populate the Saturnian skies.

Born in Geneva, New York state, Robert Lull Forward served in the US Air Force, rising to the rank of captain, before attending attending the University of California and the University of Maryland, where he studied gravitational physics. He was one of the first to experiment in the field of gravitational radiation astronomy, and for his doctoral thesis he constructed and operated the first antenna in the world that could detect gravitational radiation (in layman?s terms, gravity).

So convinced were they by Forward?s theories that the makers of Star Trek ?used? his hypothetical antimatter propulsion machine to power the USS Enterprise in its intergalactic adventures. And Forward was very much a believer that today?s science fiction was tomorrow?s science fact: not only did he think antimatter propulsion was possible, but he declared in 1987 it could be achieved within a generation.

In recent years he ran the consulting company Forward Unlimited, ?specialising in exotic physics and advanced space propulsion?. In addition to his numerous scientific articles, short stories and novels, he wrote the science book Future Magic and, with Joel Davis, Mirror Matter: Pioneering Antimatter Physics (both 1988).

Having struggled with cancer in recent years, Forward had prepared obituaries of himself for the various organisations he belonged to. One began: ?The intelligent pattern of protoplasm that had been Robert L. Forward ceased coherent operation . . .? Robert Hoyt, a friend and colleague, remarked on his death: ?Hopefully, Bob?s spirit, now unburdened by that nuisance called inertia, has reached lightspeed. I hope you all will join me in wishing him: Ad Astra, Bob!? He is survived by his wife Martha, a son and three daughters, one of whom, Julie Forward Fuller, collaborated on some of his novels.

I den senaste utgåvan av den klassiska ordboken 'Shorter Oxford English Dictionary', så finns åtminstone två Star Trek-ord med, dessa två är "klingon" och "warp drive". Även ordet "jedi" från Star Wars är med. Detta rapporterar UK Reuters.

Den nya serien på söndagar (börjar 22/9 kl 21.00) på TV4 har väl inget med Star Trek att göra, säger du?
Vi vill nog invända mot det påståendet. Det finns nämligen flera skådespelare med i serien, som varit med i olika Star Trek-sammanhang. Bara för att nämna någon, så är Kapten Kassidy Yates från Deep Space Nine med bland huvudrollerna. Winrich Kolbe som regisserat flera av Star Trek-serierna, är med i regissörsteamet även här. I de första avsnitten på den första säsongen finns dessutom flera mindre kända Trek-skådespelare med. Alla står uppradade i diskussionen nedan (Klicka på "Diskutera").

Captain Kirk kommer återigen att leda en grupp med modiga "red shirts", men denna gång så har de inte phasers utan paintball-gevär.
William Shatner (James T. Kirk) kommer att leda "Spplat Attack!" paintball-tävlingen under den 31:a augusti. tävlingen kommer att avgöras i "Challenge Park Xtreme" i Joliet, Illinois USA, intäckterna kommer att gå till "Hollywood Charity Horse Show".

Chefssminkören Michael Westmore för 'Nemesis' berättade för ett tag sen om vad han tycker om filmen:

"It's got that pace, it just throws you into it. It's going to blow your mind!"

Westmore forsatte med att berätta om några av hans skapelser i filmen:

"For the Remans, it was the first time we experimented with gelatin, the light shows behind and through their ears, creating a very eerie look. We put wires in the ears to make them look like veins."

Jenny Björkman, fil dr i historia, skriver i artikeln "Akademikern, hemmafrun och såpoperan" om Star Trek och hur serien har påverakt vårat samhälle och om den och liknande serier kan anses vara "kitsch".

"Akademikernas självbild har påverkats av den ökande konsumtionen av populärkultur. Forskningen på massproducerad tv ökar i takt med acceptansen för det som tidigare kallats "kitsch". Kanske är det oundvikligt? Till och med nödvändigt?

På söndagskvällarna bänkar sig många framför "Aktuellt" eller den deckare som SVT för tillfället valt att sända som lisa för själen inför den stundande veckan. Så inte jag. Mörka eftermiddagar då helgen vankade mot sitt slut såg jag förr i stället med tillförsikt fram emot "Xena - krigarprinsessan" och fortfarande inväntar jag med spänning veckans avsnitt av "Star Trek". Och det gäller inte ens de klassiska avsnitten. I politiskt korrekt anda är det numera den kvinnliga kapten Kathryne Janeway som styr Voyager med fast hand. Och liksom kapten James Kirk är hon hård men rättvis och rationell men mänsklig."

I det senaste numret av Cinescape Magazine så finns det en intervju med Nemesis filmförfattaren John Logan. Några utdrag:

"My personal favorite film is Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan and that's the one I studied when I started to create this one," berättade Logan för journalisten Anthony C. Ferrante. "What makes a good TREK film is what makes any good action-adventure film, and that's a strong adversary - an antagonist who is worthy of the protagonist."

"As a writer my big coup was being able to go to Rick [Berman] and say 'I know who the villains are'" förklarar Logan. "And he says 'Who?' and I said 'The Remans'. And he says 'Who ?!'. And I say 'The Romulans and the Remans. It's the bird of prey with the two planets. Romulus and Remus. We've never seen Remus. We don't know about Remus. Let's use Remus'. And of course he loved that idea once he knew what it was. I'm really proud of the fact that I was able to go into the TREK empire and add part of it."

"... If you see a good production of KING LEAR, you can see it set around this table and it would still be big because of the passion behind it. That's what I would hope we're doing with NEMESIS. Big ideas. Big emotions."

Författaren som gick ihop med Brent Spiner för att skriva berättelsen till Nemesis, berättar att han är redo för ännu en Star Trek-film:

"I'm hoping I'll be back for STAR TREK XI" säger han. "Hopefully, I won't be missing TREK for too long. It all depends on opening weekend. I told Rick [Berman], 'If we have a good opening weekend, I expect that call from you asking me what have I got for Star Trek XI'. If we have a bad opening weekend, you may never hear from me again."

En av de mest slående bilderna i 'Nemesis' är den Romulanska höken, som finns med på film-logon. Rick Sternbach (Senior Illustrator) berättar här varför de uppdaterade den Romulanska-logon för filmen:

"The original warbird logo developed for the Next Generation, while strange and spooky and alien, was also considered too indistinct as an identifying symbol of the Romulan Star Empire, and so I was asked to submit a new look.
A number of mounting schemes were being discussed, from being bolted to a wall to hanging over the senate chamber (the method eventually chosen), but in any case the final sculpture of the bird would be more or less vertical. We gathered references of eagle, hawk, and condor photography, use of eagle symbols in German, Roman, and U.S. armed forces graphics, and even the underbody pattern from the TOS Romulan cruiser. I developed the chiseled, stylized look from a combination of 1930s German eagle political and advertising depictions, with a dash of the naturalistic alien structures, the feather shapes from the TOS cruiser, and what appeared as horns in the TNG logo to tie the new symbol to previous incarnations."

Sternbach har varit med och designat flera skepp och stationer i Star Trek, t.ex. DS9-stationen, Enterprise-E, Voyager m.fl. Vad tycker han om Enterprise NX-01 då?

"As to the NX-01, with the approvals process and the marching orders Doug and John Eaves undoubtedly had to follow -- re: the identifiable Akira hull structures -- the result is a decent looking vehicle, just not for the show's time period. I could see the design as something to come *after* the TOS Enterprise, not before, despite the producers' high RPM spin about the updating of the look and feel for a hip new audience and the comments about the visual inspiration of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning. The deflector hardware, the aztec hull plating, the rapid "upgrading" of weapons systems to almost Voyager levels of technology feels totally anachronistic, which is somewhat amusing given the temporal cold war thread of the series. Would that they had made something of an SF connection between the ship design and the storyline; *that* would have been original and clever."
